Eight players from the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies have been named in the 32 player squad for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England later this month.

Katalina Amosa, Ashley Fernandez, Tia Hinds, Lydia Kavoa, Faitala Moleka, Tania Naden and Tabua Tuinakauvadra are all included, with Brumbies skipper Siokapesi Palu also named as captain for her national team for this tournament.

It will be the first experience of a World Cup for all Brumbies players apart from Naden and Palu, who were included in the Wallaroos squad for the 2021 tournament in New Zealand. Naden, 33, received her 25th cap for Australia in Friday night’s farewell win against Wales at North Sydney Oval, with Tuinakauvadra (two), Moleka and Amosa all scoring tries.

ACT Brumbies Head of Women’s Rugby and Pathways James Erwin congratulated the players on their inclusion and was delighted to see such a strong cohort of Brumbies receive recognition for their form.

"We’re very proud of the Brumbies who have been given a massive opportunity at the upcoming World Cup in England,” Erwin said.

“They’ve all made enormous contributions to the Brumbies this season and have worked phenomenally hard to earn their selections.

“Everyone at the club is excited to see them perform for the Wallaroos on the world stage, as they continue to raise the bar for women’s rugby in Australia.”

The Wallaroos will play Samoa in their opening group game on August 23 (9pm kick-off AWST), followed by an all-important clash against USA on August 31 (4.30am AEST) and tournament hosts England on September 6 (2am AEST).

The squad will depart for the UK on August 11 and be based in Manchester ahead of their first pool match against Samoa.
