The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies are proud to reveal their Anzac jersey for 2025, giving recognition to the flagship of the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Canberra.

The club has a long-standing connection with HMAS Canberra, with Brumbies teams previously having the honour of being hosted aboard the ship on several occasions.

Recently, the squad paid a visit to the ship in Sydney ahead of our game against the NSW Waratahs in Round 6.

Chief executive Phil Thomson emphasised the significance of paying tribute to HMAS Canberra on the jersey, with the ship representing the nation’s capital as the Navy’s lead vessel.

“It’s important for us as a club to formally recognise the Canberra association of our organisation and the branding of this vital ship to Australian Naval operations, with its inclusion on this year’s Anzac Weekend Round jersey design,” Thomson said.

“The team were invited to look around the ship last month and were absorbed by the equipment and facilities on board. We’d like to thank the team at the Royal Australian Navy for having us and allowing us to portray their ship on our jersey.

“Anzac Weekend Round has become a significant part of the Smartech Super Rugby Pacific calendar and it’s an honour for us to host the Hurricanes at GIO Stadium this year.”

The Brumbies will wear the shirt for our Round 11 fixture against the Hurricanes at GIO Stadium on Saturday 26th April (kick-off 7.35pm), as part of Smartech Super Rugby Pacific’s Anzac Weekend Round.

The main feature on our 2025 Anzac jersey is the ship, HMAS Canberra, and two of its landing craft.

HMAS Canberra was commissioned in November 2014. Key roles of the ship include transporting and deploying an embarked force of Army (or allied units), along with all their equipment and vehicles, and conducting amphibious operations. The ship is also equipped to support large-scale humanitarian and disaster relief missions, with medical facilities and operating theatres on board.

The rosemary with the Brumbies logo is an ancient symbol of fidelity and remembrance. The aromatic herb grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula inTürkiye, where the original ANZACs served in World War I. Australians traditionally wear sprigs of rosemary as a symbol of remembrance on ANZAC Day or Remembrance Day.

On the lower back of the jersey are the three colours of poppies. The red poppy is a symbol of remembrance of those who died or suffered in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

The white poppy is an international symbol of remembrance for all casualties of war – civilians and armed forces personnel – and peace.

The purple poppy remembers animal victims of war and human violence. Animals cannot volunteer and have no choice in becoming involved in war when they serve alongside human military personnel. Like humans, animals living in war zones suffer from the effect of war – injury, stress, lack of food and water.

On the sleeve we have the Australian Defence Force colours, dark blue for the Navy, red for the Army, and light blue for the Air Force.
