The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies visited Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT & SE NSW, Garran to help the non-for-profit prepare for the upcoming festive season.
The organisation is a notable charity responsible for providing support for ill children and their families around Australia.
Members of the Super Rugby squad Darcy Swain, Luke Reimer, Ollie Sapsford, Tom Hooper and Academy player’s Lachlan Hooper and Madison Miller were in attendance to help produce and bake Christmas treats.
The squad were present to display their culinary skills, baking Gingerbread houses, Christmas tree cookies and reindeer pops for children and their families.
Ronald McDonald House volunteer Pauline Miller has been contributing her time for the past 18 months to cook meals for families accommodated at the Garran centre.
"My son had a friend come from Wagga Wagga and he asked if I could do some running around. I found out how important it was and opted to volunteer."
"When I started volunteering I had no idea I would be using my cooking skills in the kitchen to contribute."
Miller was glowing of the player's support in the kitchen.
"It is amazing, I'd like to see the faces on the children and the people in the wards to reap the benefits of what they've cooked."
"They will be delighted and brighten their day. I don't know what they're going through, I can only imagine. Any contribution you can do to put a smile on their face would be the best thing you can possibly do."
The Brumbies have continued their focus on building strong relationships in the community and supporting those in need.
The visit is extra special for Luke Reimer, Ollie Sapsford and Tom Hooper who are Ronald McDonald House Ambassadors. The trio have visited throughout the season to bring positive energy to the space.
Reimer shared the importance of how giving back to the community can leave a positive impact on people.
"I've always wanted to help outside of footy and inspire some kids who are in unfortunate situations to have a good outlook on life," said the breakaway forward.
"There are volunteers who come in all the time to cook meals for everyone staying on the premises. It gives a bit of a homely feel when they don't have the luxury of having a home cooked meal."
Ronald McDonald House: Be a Santa for Sick Kids
Members of the ACT & Southern NSW region are able to show their support by donating to Ronald McDonald House’s ‘Be a Santa for Sicks Kids’ initiative this December.
For the seriously ill and injured children staying at Ronald McDonald House, they just want their families close as they battle childhood illnesses and injuries. Proceeds help provide a home-away-from-home for kids undergoing life-saving treatment this Christmas.
