Mate vs mate, state vs state territory!

The ACT Brumbies stand ready to face the Queensland Reds in a heavyweight Australian derby on Saturday night, and rest assured, it’s going to be a belter.

This weekend is Club Rugby Round across the Swyftx Super Rugby Pacific competition, and the Brumbies are proud to celebrate their connections to Canberra’s local clubs, bringing a homegrown energy to the big stage.

The men from the capital have been on fire to start the season, and Head Coach Stephen Larkham has stuck to his guns, making just one change to his Round 4 XV. Former Red Tuaina Taii Tualima comes into the backrow for the rested Rob Valetini, primed for a big game against the club where his Super Rugby career began.

Five straight wins. That’s the Brumbies’ current run against the Reds. Now, at GIO Stadium, they have the chance to make it six on the trot. But past results won’t count for much once the whistle blows.

Saturday night also carries added significance for veteran prop James Slipper, who equals the all-time Super Rugby appearance record of 202 caps, fittingly against his former club, where he racked up 104 caps before moving south to Canberra.

Slipper, Billy Pollard, Rhys van Nek, Lachie Shaw and Cadeyrn Neville set the standard across the competition for tight fives, domintaing set-piece and around the grounds. Tualima, Rory Scott, and Charlie Cale have been simply scintillating to start the season and will look to dominate their opposite numbers.

Captain Ryan Lonergan partners fly-half Declan Meredith, with David Feliuai bringing his physical edge alongside breakout rookie Kadin Pritchard, cleared to return after passing HIA protocols. Out wide, Ollie Sapsford, Corey Toole, and Andy Muirhead have been lethal through the opening rounds.

Wallaby talent across both squads guarantees physicality, emotion, and edge from start to finish. This Saturday night at GIO Stadium, round up your mates, make some noise, and help drive the Brumbies home!
