Despite a slow start to the competition, the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies are still in with a shot of reaching the inaugural Super Rugby AUS final.

Standing in their way is a familiar enemy, who will also have their sights set on a berth in the decider. The Waratahs are in town, for not one, not two, but three instalments of the classic rivalry.

Our under-16s, under-19s, and Super Rugby AUS sides will all be in action in conditions that promise to be perfect for rugby. The Super Rugby AUS side return home after two weeks on the road – having travelled to Brisbane for Round 1 and Perth for Round 2. Home comforts and the chance to play in front of family and friends will provide a timely boost, as they look to keep their final hopes alive.

Both sides offer a mix of established stars and up-and-coming players. For the Brumbies, fullback Kye Oates is set to make his senior debut, while his brother, Chace, will be in action for the under-19s. Rory Scott is set to captain the team for the first time, following strong showings in both matches to date.

Elsewhere, the halves pairing remains the same, with Declan Meredith and Klayton Thorn starting to form a formidable combination.

Young gun Jack Harley will also get his first chance at senior level at number eight, having impressed head coach Stephen Larkham in his time in the Brumbies set-up. Meanwhile, the Waratahs will be heading into Saturday’s match with plenty of confidence, having dismantled the Reds in Narrabri last week. Their young guns rose to the occasion, despite a considerable disadvantage in terms of experience. That’s where the niceties will have to stop, however.

Unlike a usual Tah week, the opposition is largely unknown. Both sides will have little knowledge of personnel and playing style, which has proved a key factor in the competition so far.

The equation for our Brumbies is simple. A victory of 15 points or more is required against the Tahs. That, however, would not be enough to qualify for the final. We are also relying on the high-flying Western Force – who have secured a home final – to defeat the Reds.

This adds another element of intrigue to the match, which will no doubt serve as the latest chapter in the historic rivalry.

Tickets are available for our Super Rugby AUS, U19s and U16s triple header against rivals NSW Waratahs at Viking Park on Saturday 27 September here
