The stage was set on Saturday afternoon for one of the ACTJRU U18’s biggest clashes of season as Marist College hosted St Edmund’s in a clash of undefeated heavyweights.

The atmosphere was an intoxicating combination of tribal screaming, youthful energy and elite talent. There was no common ground once St Edmund’s ran on to the field to face what was going to be a rugby match to remember.

Marist started the game off perfectly, the two-blues side crossing after a mere 30 seconds to score the first try of the match.

An early yellow card to Marist didn’t deter them, their starting line up playing some dominant rugby en route to a 15-0 lead after only 20 minutes.

Marist managed to cross again before halftime, the visitors looking extremely impressive in the first stanza and taking a 20-0 lead into the break.=The hosts came out for the second half and picked up where they left off, scoring another early try to push out their already commanding lead to 25-0.

20 minutes later Eddies managed to hit back, a quick tap in created an opening for a try under the posts, Giving Eddie’s their first try of the game and cutting the gap to 25-7, Marist way.

Both sides continued to push for more points, the muddy conditions making it difficult for either side to string phases together and turning the game into a scrap for possession.

Neither side was able to make a final dent in the scoreboard despite some promising chances, Marist keeping their undefeated streak alive and taking a 25-7 victory over their bitter rivals.
