Each year Brumbies Rugby hold the Provincial Championship which is contested by representative sides from Southern Inland, Monaro, and South Coast regions over the June Long Weekend. This year will see restructure of the Championship with games being spread across two weekends. This weekend will see the South Coast Region go up against Monaro at Braidwood, to pick a potential side that will face SIRU.

These two teams have a long history with one another but only one will emerge victorious. In previous years Monaro have seen some tough games against the South Coast side and have managed to come home with a win.

The coach for the Monaro side Michael Nicoletti is confident in his team will be a team to be a formidable force against their opposition.

“They’re looking fit and fast and have pulled together quite quickly”, said Coach Michael Nicoletti.

The South Coast will be the home side for this game this weekend but do not see it as an advantage, they have been working on their basic structure as well as their skills and set piece.

With the new structure of the competition to be put in motion this weekend we are seeing some familiar faces making a return to the field.  For the Monaro Representative side Hagan Williams and Mick Stallard from the Young Yabbies, Jake Roarty and Matthew Caldwell from Jindabyne, Brendan Madden from Yass and Tom Griffiths from ADFA.

The South Coast representative side returners are James Bell, Jim Roberts, Nathan Smith, Ash Kenny and Andrew Fleming from Batemans Bay and from Bungendore Andy Goslette, John Steele and Tom Bollard.

With an interesting game ahead this weekend the two teams are eager to get on the field and put it to one another in the trial.

SIRU will be anticipating the result of the match and looking forward to the announcement of the side that they will face.

As the Rugby Manager for SIRU Mick McTaggart commented, “You should never underestimate your opponent”.=The combined South Coast/Monaro side will take on SIRU on Saturday 10th June at ANU North Oval.
