Maumau Monu will has been picked to represent Australia in New Zealand in October.
Three ACT Schoolboys have been selected to represent Australia after the young Brumbies side finished fifth at the National Schools Championships in Sydney last week.
Maumau Monu (Canberra College), Jordan Jackson-Hope (St Edmunds College) and Jordan Fulivai (St Francis Xavier College) were all selected to feature in the Australian Schoolboys side which will tour New Zealand in October.
Narrow losses to NSW 2 and QLD 1 and big wins over Western Australia and Victoria pushed the ACT schoolboys into fourth place behind the two QLD and NSW sides.
Once again it was an all NSW final, with NSW 1 narrowly edging NSW 2 for the title, 38-24 at Riverview on Sydney’s North Shore.
For the ACT, a first-up, one-point loss to eventual runner’s up NSW 2 provided a clear insight into how strong the ACT’s side was.
At 17-18, the game could have gone either was with the ACT hooking a conversion attempt from the sideline after the bell to wave their chance at a higher finish.
In recent years the ACT schoolboys have produced ACT talent like Tom Staniforth and Robbie Coleman who both fill fulltime spots with the UC Brumbies moving into the 2015 Super Rugby season.
Australian Schoolboys Executive Officer Andrew Elliot said the 2014 Championships will provide a great opportunity for students to enhance their Rugby development in a competitive tournament structure on and off the field.
“The Australian Schoolboy Rugby program is one the best schoolboy Rugby programs in the world. Schools from right across Australia continue to support the development of the next generation of Rugby talent,” he said.
