That’s all she wrote Brumbies fans.
The ACT Brumbies' 2026 season is over after going down to the Hurricanes 66-12 in blustery conditions in Wellington.
The Brumbies needed to produce an upset win to keep finals hopes alive, but alas it was not their night.
The Canes ran in try after try as the Brumbies struggled to wrestle momentum. Hurricanes scrum-half Cam Roigard was the chief weapon for the home side, scoring a first half double, and leading his side to a 38-7 lead at halftime.
The Brumbies showed glimmers of the team who started the season with such promise, scoring two highlight worthy tries.
First, to Corey Toole after a cheeky Ryan Lonergan chip put the winger through to out jump the defence before momentum carried him nearly 5 metres to slide over the line in the wet grass. The 37th minute 5-pointer gave some hope to the men from the ACT.
The 53rd minute saw a second long range effort, again started by the Toole/Lonergan combo, saw the Brumbies break the Canes open down the right wing. nice interplay of passes put Tane Edmed in space to dive over in the right corner.
Despite the fight shown by the men in white, it was all the Hurricanes game, scoring four more tries to close out the contest. Second-rower Warnner Dearns nabbed his second and Ngane Punivai scored a second half hat-trick to put the result well beyond doubt.
The match ended, the Hurricanes move on, and the Brumbies return home to review.
The team is hurting, the fans are disappointed, but Brumbies pride lives on. We will see you all again next year as we go around again for another crack at the title.
Thank you Brums fans for your support in 2026. Your cheers and your messages of support genuinely mean a lot to this team. We are Brumbies, and we ARE the ACT.
