The Plus500 Brumbies are pleased to announce that Eastern Suburbs Head Coach Tim Cornforth has been appointed as Head Coach for the Brumbies Men’s 7s program for the 2018 season heading into the National Championships in Brisbane scheduled for December.
The team will head to Ballymore for the weekend of 7-9th December for the annual National Sevens competition and will likely feature a host of names familiar to those who watch the Griffin Legal John I Dent Cup including joint MacDougall medal winners Jake Helgesen and Jacob Abel.
Included in the extended squad of nineteen are Brodie Leber, who saw action with the Canberra Vikings in the National Rugby Championship [NRC] this season, as well as Eastern Suburbs flying wing George Morseu, who featured in Brumbies colours in the 2017 Austbrokers Cup match in Singapore.
Preparation for the national titles will commence in earnest when the team takes part in the Western Sydney Sevens, held at Leichardt Oval, on the weekend of Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November. From there the squad travels to the NSW Sevens in Bowral on Saturday 24 November to fine tune the program ahead of the Brisbane competition.
The make-up of the extended squad was selected from the local Griffin Legal John I Dent Cup competition and the Queanbeyan Sevens which was held on Saturday 13 October and featured some excellent rugby with Sydney Fiji emerging victorious after seeing off the Gungahlin Eagles in the Final.
“There are some outstanding players in the squad,” Andrew Clark, Head of Pathways at the Plus500 Brumbies commented.
“Tim [Cornforth] is very excited about their potential and we are looking forward to seeing the squad develop before they head to Nationals.”
Meanwhile, the Youth Sevens Girls and Boys teams will mirror the senior men’s team’s programs throughout the 2018 season and have named their coaching staff for the National Finals.
Damien Tyson will lead the Girls challenge, assisted by Samantha Maxwell, whilst the Boy’s Head Coach is Neil Roberts of St. Edmund’s College and is assisted by Lachlan Creighton.
Further news of selected squads for these programs will follow.
