Country strong and sky high — Toby Macpherson brings rural grit to towering heights.

Born in Dubbo and raised between Goondiwindi and Narromine, Macpherson’s rugby roots run deep. He first pulled on the boots at just four years old with the Goondiwindi Junior Emus — the same club where his love for the game first took hold. From wide open paddocks to packed grandstands, his journey has always been grounded in hard work.

Educated at St Mary’s Goondiwindi, St Philomena’s Moree and later Brisbane Boys’ College, Macpherson’s size and athleticism quickly set him apart. At 199cm and 113kg, he cuts an imposing figure — a long, powerful forward built for lineouts, collisions and the tight exchanges. Inspired by his dad and the relentless work rate of Michael Hooper, he combines country toughness with a commitment to the unseen efforts that win games.

Off the field, Macpherson is as authentic as they come. A farm hand working with sheep, cattle and cropping, he’s no stranger to early mornings and honest labour. When he’s not training, you’ll likely find him reading or talking agriculture and crop farming — subjects he could unpack all day without missing a beat.

Heading into the 2026 season, Macpherson looms as a rising force in the Brumbies pack — tall, tough and forged from the land, ready to make his mark at the next level.
