Ryan Lonergan

Lonners stands at the helm of the Brumbies backline, steering the team around the park and commanding his crew through every storm on the field. Calm authority, an impeccable passing game, and a reliable boot are the hallmarks of our Brumbies’ scrum-half. 

Alongside his brother Lachlan, Ryan spent his early days at Trinity Christian School, where his talent earned him an Australian Schoolboys cap. Those representative honours translated into a Brumbies development contract, and he excelled in the 2017 Super U20s competition. Later that year, the halfback received an unexpected call-up, making his Brumbies debut against the Chiefs. 

In 2018, Lonergan captained the Australia U20s to the World Rugby U20s Championship in France, showcasing his leadership skills on the international stage.  

Ryan embodies the Brumbies’ spirit, never giving up and always punching above his weight. His standout 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season earned him a long-awaited Wallabies call-up for the Rugby Championship, debuting against the All Blacks at Eden Park — and may we say, he absolutely smashed it. 

Heading into the 2026 season, Lonergan remains the Brumbies’ tactical nucleus. With leadership, game intelligence, and a steadying presence, he continues to direct play, marshal the forwards, and keep the team on course through even the fiercest contests.
