From rural New Zealand to Canberra’s backline chessboard — Ollie Sapsford can play just about anywhere and hurt you from all of them.
Born and raised in Ashburton, New Zealand, Sapsford attended Ashburton College and played his junior rugby with Mid Canterbury, laying the foundations for a game built on skill and adaptability. His progression saw him earn a contract with the Wellington Rugby Academy before stepping into the professional arena with Hawke’s Bay in the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup.
After several strong seasons with the Magpies, Sapsford’s speed and footwork earned him selection in the New Zealand Sevens squad — sharpening his spatial awareness and attacking instincts in the shortened format.
He signed with the Brumbies in 2022 and made his Super Rugby debut against the Western Force that same year, quickly showcasing his value as a utility weapon. In 2023, he received his first call-up to Australian A and has remained firmly in the representative conversation since.
Comfortable in the centres and across every position in the back three, Sapsford’s versatility has become a genuine asset for the Brumbies — offering flexibility without sacrificing impact.
Heading into the 2026 season, Sapsford stands as one of the Brumbies’ most adaptable attacking threats — sharp, reliable and ready wherever he’s needed.
