From midfield menace to front-row force, Martha Fua’s rise through rugby has been nothing short of explosive.
The proud Tongan-Australian first made her mark in rugby league and sevens, captaining the Parramatta Eels in the Tarsha Gale Cup before bringing her athleticism and physicality across to rugby union. After beginning her XVs journey with the Blacktown Scorpions and later the Gungahlin Eagles, Fua quickly became one of the most exciting developing talents in the women’s game.
Originally debuting for the Brumbies in 2023 as a centre, Fua’s transition into the front row has been remarkable. Combining explosive power with mobility and aggression around the field, she rapidly evolved into a destructive scrummaging prop and bruising ball carrier capable of dominating collisions. Her impact earned her Brumbies cap #92 before national selectors quickly came calling.
In 2025, Fua achieved another major milestone when she debuted for the Wallaroos against Fiji, becoming Wallaroo #223. Now a fully contracted Australian representative, she continues to establish herself as a powerful presence in the national front row, including earning selection for the high-profile 2026 ANZAC Day clash against the Black Ferns.
Away from rugby, Fua works as a children’s educator while also studying Law, balancing elite sport alongside university and work commitments. In her downtime, she enjoys reading, sleeping in and relaxing with a coffee in the sun; though she could also happily spend hours talking about the Springboks, who she proudly calls “the best.”
Inspired by the dominant South African side and their physical style of play, Fua brings that same intensity and competitiveness every time she takes the field.
Heading into the 2026 season, Fua continues to establish herself as one of the Brumbies’ most powerful forwards; dynamic, destructive and still only scratching the surface of her potential.
