Graduating from Trinity College, he then gained Australian Schoolboys representative honours, receiving the Bronze Boot award from schoolboys in 2017. After such a promising schoolboy career, he was picked up by the Brumbies Academy and was named in the Junior Wallabies squad. Playing locally for the Tuggeranong Vikings, he would later make his Super Rugby debut against the Chiefs in the 2020 season. Lonergan has four Wallaby caps to his name and was the hero in the final Test of 2022, when he scored the game-winner against Wales in Cardiff to cap off an incredible comeback victory. Lonergan regularly appears in the Brumbies lineup alongside his older brother Ryan.
