Demi Hayes has been in the Australian Rugby 7s system since she was a teenager after growing up as a touch footballer.
Born in the mining town of Mount Isa, Hayes grew up in the Darling Downs in Queensland’s south; firstly, at the family property near the town of Glenmorgan, then Warwick where she went to boarding school and Toowoomba.
She then moved to Sydney in 2015 to join the Australian Youth Sevens squad after being introduced to the game by Aussie teammate Charlotte Caslick.
Hayes made her 7s debut against Brazil in 2016 and watched on as the team won a gold medal in Rio.
She was later selected for the 2020 Tokyo Games, making her Olympics debut.
Hayes unfortunately ruptured her ACL in Cape Town of the 2023/2024 SVNS season and missed a possible second Olympics campaign.
She returned to the field in Dubai, 2024 with an eye on a big year in 2025.
Hayes was one of nine Sevens players who put their hand up to transition to 15s in 2025 ahead of the Rugby World Cup.
She joined Tia Hinds and Bienne Terita at the Brumbies, where she will look to play at least two games during the Super Rugby Women's season.
