Darcy Breen
Darcy Breen AKA Breenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Breenage Dream, the Breen Machine etc. etc, is built to be a front man in the scrum, powered by raw strength and a sharp rugby mind.
Born in Sydney, Breen began his rugby journey with Easts Bays Rugby Club in Rose Bay at just 10 years old, where he played lock — if you can believe it. A Scots College alumnus, he joining the NSW Waratahs Academy after graduating school.
Impressing for Sydney University Breen earned selection for the Australian squad at the 2019 Australia U20 side, finishing runners-up at the World Rugby U20 Championship alongside fellow Brumbies Lachlan Lonergan, Noah Lolesio, Rhys van Nek and Nick Frost. In 2021he made his Super Rugby debut for the Waratahs, featuring in nine matches across Super Rugby Trans‑Tasman and the COVID‑affected Super Rugby AU.
From there his rugby career took a less than traditional path, with stints at Major League Rugby outfit San Diego Legion — alongside Brumbies great Matt Giteau — and in New Zealand with Canterbury, where he helped lift the 2025 Bunnings NPC title
Off the field, Breen puts his sophisticated head atop his mountainous shoulders to good use. His off‑season is spent coaching junior rugby, reading, writing and enjoying theatre. A modern history savant, his ideal downtime includes golf, watching Breaking Bad and exploring good food.
Joining the Brumbies for the 2026 season originally on a train and trial deal, Breen made his debut in Round Five against the Fijian Drua. Working alongside seasoned veterans in the front row, he has quickly impressed, becoming a key contributor within one of the most experienced scrummaging units in the competition. Darcy is the man for the future with the Brumbies and is keen to keep honing his craft.
