Folau Fainga’a has signed an early extension to his Brumbies and Rugby Australia contract that will see him play his rugby with the ACT-based club and be available for the Wallabies until the end of 2022.

Fainga’a, who was leading try scorer for the Brumbies in a memorable 2019 campaign, has risen quickly to be an integral component for the Brumbies, showcasing all the attributes of a modern-day hooker.

“I am very happy to have been able to sign an early extension to my contract and am looking forward to achieving my rugby goals with both the Brumbies and the Wallabies,” Fainga’a commented.

“It’s great to have my immediate future sorted and we are all aiming to build on what was a successful 2019 season for the team.“I love the culture and the environment at the Brumbies and am confident that we have a quality group of players here who can be very successful.”

Having signed with the Brumbies for the 2018 season, Fainga’a’s set-piece technique, lineout throwing and ability to carry dominantly in the loose, led to a Test debut against New Zealand in Auckland the same year.

Still young, at 24 years of age, Fainga’a was part of the Wallabies squad that took part in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, playing in the win over Uruguay and will seek to earn further Wallabies selection to prove his worth on the international stage.

“We are delighted that Folau has agreed to extend his contract early with the Brumbies,” Head Coach Dan McKellar said.

“His signing gives us added continuity in what is a key position on the field. Folau has worked hard to improve his game having only turned professional a short time ago.

“His dedication to our program and to improving himself will continue to pay dividends and we look forward to seeing his continuous improvement as a quality hooker for both the Brumbies & Wallabies.”

The Brumbies Super Rugby campaign commences on Friday 31 January with the visit of the Reds to GIO Stadium in Canberra at the family-friendly kick-off time of 7:15pm.
