George Smith will set a University of Canberra Brumbies record for most caps on Sunday when he makes his 137th appearance for the club against the Crusaders.

Having made his debut back in 2000, Smith has gone on the become the most decorated player in the Brumbies history after securing the Brett Robinson Players Player on nine occasions, John Eales Medal twice and the Super Rugby Player of the Year in 2008.

Collectively he has made 320 professional appearances, with 110 games for the Wallabies and almost 50 in the French Top 14 with both Toulon and Stade Francais.

Most recently, Smith has been impressing Japan’s rugby community with an MVP season at the undefeated champions, Suntory Sungoliath.

With Suntory and the Brumbies coming to a loan agreement between February and April, Smith returned to Canberra where he has slotted in for the injured David Pocock, who damaged his knee in round three against the Waratahs.

Smith equalled George Gregan’s record of 136 caps on Saturday night against the Western Force at Canberra Stadium.

Smith is one of seven player to have reached 100 caps for the Brumbies, the last being Mark Chisholm in 2011.
