Joe Powell was considerably unlucky to miss out on Rugby World Cup selection at the end of a 2019 Super Rugby season that had seen him produce some superb performances in the Brumbies jersey, enough to see him included in the extended Wallabies squad.
An ever-present in the team that reached the semi-finals, Powell crossed for a brace of tries, scoring against the Sunwolves and Sharks at GIO Stadium, showcasing his support running and ability to see a gap.
A Tuggeranong Vikings player for his entire senior career, Powell was an important part of Nick Scrivener’s 2019 Canberra Vikings NRC side, alongside side fellow Viking and Brumbies number nine Ryan Lonergan.
A local Canberra product, Powell attended the famous Marist College in the ACT, a veritable rugby hotbed in the National Capital, and made his Brumbies debut as long ago as 2015 when appearing against the Rebels in Canberra.
