Six members of the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies Super W squad have been selected in the Wallaroos squad for their upcoming games against Fiji and the New Zealand Black Ferns.

Captain Siokapesi Palu and vice-captain Tania Naden’s performances and outstanding leadership of the Brumbies saw the pair drive the club to the Super W Semi-Finals where the Brumbies came agonisingly close to reaching the Grand Final for the first time.

The nationally-contracted pair are joined by four uncapped internationals in the Wallaroos first squad for the year, the Brumbies strong representation in the squad a fantastic reward for the club’s Super W program which has took great strides this year.

Backrower Tabua Tuinakauvadra was a standout for the Brumbies in the forwards, the bruising ball carrier also performing well at lock throughout the season.

Jay Huriwai’s form over the past two years in ACT colours sees the Western-Sydney Two Blues product earn her first callup to the national set-up, with young-gun playmaker Faitala Moleka, 18, the youngest of the Brumbies contingent.

Fullback Ashlea Bishop completes the Brumbies selection, the Royals star having put in several eye-catching displays this season, both with ball-in-hand and from the boot.

Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies General Manager Professional Rugby and Pathways, Chris Thomson said: “We’re thrilled for the six players who have earned their spot in the Wallaroos squad, and particularly excited for Tabua, Jay, Faitala and Ash who will get their first opportunity to experience training, preparing and hopefully playing at international level.”

“2019 was the last time the club had six players in a Wallaroos squad and it’s a credit to not only their dedication and performances, but also to the program and environment Scott and his staff created this season.

“Pesi and Tania’s leadership this season was vital to the program, and with this group, the club has a strong base to build on into the future.”
