Canberra Royals RUFC have announced that Adam Butt will be joining Royals as Head Coach, effective immediately.

Butt will be joining Royals from Western District Rugby Union Club, where he was Head Coach for two years having previously guided the Brumbies Super W program.

Butt joined Canberra Royals in 1997 and was a regular on the 1st grade team sheet gaining 130 caps and 200 caps in combined grades.

Butt retired from playing in 2014 but was keen to continue at Royals in a coaching role.  Prior to his move to Wests, he worked closely with coaching legend Wayne Southwell as his backs coach.

Additionally, Butt was tasked with leading a year-round Academy program for Super W and Wallaroos players.

Players, coaches, managers, and staff at Canberra Royals would all like to congratulate Butt on his return and are looking forward to next season where Butt will be, “Back in Blue for 22!”

“I feel really honoured to be given the opportunity to coach Canberra Royals.  Having spent two years away I am excited to meet some of the new faces around the club and hit the ground running,” says Butt.

“I would like to wish our new coach all the very best for next season and beyond.  I know Butty will do a fantastic job and continue to build on the strengths and style that are synonymous with Canberra Royals” says Wayne Southwell, Former Head Coach at Canberra Royals. “It will be an exciting time for players and supporters both.”

Adam was an uncompromising player and coach at Canberra Royals with a never say die attitude.” Says Jim Taylor, President of Canberra Royals RUFC.  “We look forward to that continuing as Adam takes on the role of Royals Head Coach, bringing all of that positive influence and experience to us all both on and off the field.
