Against a strong Waratahs A side, the Brumbies Runners have gone down fighting, 40-12 in Sydney.

Tries from Academy prospects Tom Haddad and Billy Pollard weren’t enough for the young Runners to contain the ‘Tahs, who had a smattering of Super Rugby stars in their ranks.

The experienced Waratahs outfit started the sharper of the two sides, the Sydneysiders wasting no time in opening the scoring, crashing over off a well worked maul.

That try set the tone for the ‘Tahs, the Brumbies being forced to defend their line for the next twenty minutes.

Gallantly, the Brumbies held out the Waratahs but eventually the home side breached the Brumbies line to extend their lead.

The Waratahs dominated territory and possession for much of the first 40, and tacked on two more well worked tries, the Runner doing everything to keep their more experienced counterparts at bay.

After the interval, the Brumbies came out firing, getting the first try of the second stanza.

An inventive chip from Issak Fines gave Tom Haddad the chance to leap, gather and score for the Brumbies, the Eagles flyer somehow getting the ball down.

On the day however, the Waratahs were just too strong and although the youthful Runners side never gave up, crossing the line in the final minutes through Billy Pollard, it was the Waratahs who ran out convincing winners, 40-12.
