ACTAS Brumbies Women’s 7s Academy Program

The Plus500 Brumbies are proud to announce the ACTAS Brumbies Women’s 7s Academy Program, a joint initiative from Brumbies/ACTAS supported by Rugby Australia.

Brumbies Rugby is partnering with the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) to build a High Performance program, underpinning the national women’s 7’s program, to enhance player development and depth, athlete wellbeing and sustain performance across Women’s Rugby 7’s.

Rugby Australia, the Brumbies and ACT Government, through ACTAS, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Women’s Rugby 7’s Academy Program through to December 2020.

The pathway program is designed to support identified athletes at both the state and national level with the potential to represent Australia.

The program will provide a Daily Training Environment utilising the facilities of ACTAS, the AIS, and University of Canberra, as well as intensive camps which are athlete centred, coach driven, sport science/sports medicine and management supported.

“We are delighted that this program is in place,” Andrew Clark, Head of Pathways at Brumbies Rugby commented.

“It is intended to Talent ID suitable sporting participants from Rugby and other regional sports to produce quality Women’s 7s players.

“This will provide a high quality regional pathway avenue/program for talented girls/women to represent Brumbies and AON Sevens squads, then Australia at the Olympics and World Championships.”

The Brumbies and Rugby Australia will identify and develop elite 7’s players with all eligible ACTAS athletes to play for ACT at National Youth or Open representative level with coaching led by Brumbies staff, alongside expertise coaching and support provided by ACTAS.

Brumbies Rugby’s Damien Tyson will lead the skills component of the program.Gerard Corradini – Manager, ACTAS was excited about the launch of the new partnership and the opportunities that it will afford talented players both immediately and in the foreseeable future.

“ACTAS is excited to enter a new partnership with the Brumbies and Rugby Australia to support talented female athletes from the ACT and surrounding region,” Mr. Corradini said.

“ACTAS supports over 100 talented athletes in Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sports and we are pleased to add Rugby 7’s to the sports supported through the Academy”.
