Wallabies centre Tevita Kuridrani has agreed to re-sign with the Plus500 Brumbies for a further two years after an excellent 2017 Super Rugby campaign which saw him play in fifteen matches and score five tries.

The strong-running centre has made 90 appearances for the Brumbies since making his debut for the club in 2012 against the Reds, becoming the 150th player to represent the ACT club in Super Rugby.

Fijian-born Kuridrani initially came to Australia as a teenager, moving to Queensland with his family and showing a keen aptitude for rugby, to the extent that he was called up to play for Australia at Sevens and at U20 level before relocating to Canberra in 2012.

After a successful spell with the Brumbies, Kuridrani’s promotion to the Wallabies seemed assured and he made his international debut against New Zealand in 2013.

He has since racked up 50 appearances in the Gold jersey claiming the milestone fifty-cap mark during the Rugby Championship match against South Africa in Perth.Kuridrani was a standout for Australia in their 2017 tour to the United Kingdom and France in November and December 2016, scoring four tries and causing havoc with the ball in hand.

Closer to home, the robust centre was a try-scoring hero as the Brumbies defeated the touring British & Irish Lions at Canberra Stadium in 2013, the only match against a Super Rugby side the fabled tourists lost on that trip.

“I am looking forward to continuing my club career with the Brumbies and am happy that I will be able to play in front of the Brumbies fans again next season,” Kuridrani commented.

“I have enjoyed my time at the Brumbies and I am excited to be part of a new era at the club. We have lots of exciting talent in the squad and we have a good mix of youth and experience.

“I get along well with my team-mates and enjoy Canberra as a city. We have a special bond at the Brumbies and I am delighted I will be continuing to play my rugby in Canberra.”

Brumbies Head Coach Dan McKellar expressed his delight that the talented Kuridrani should sign a new deal at the club.

“It is great news for the Brumbies having Tevita commit to the club for the next two years,” McKellar said.

“Tevita is now one of our most experienced players and we will be looking to him to step up as a leader both on and off field. On field, he is a big powerful ball carrier who has the ability to create something out of nothing, he is also in my opinion now one of the best defensive 13s in the world.

“He plays a big role in how we defend as a team through his work in the wider channels. Off field, through the experience he has gained as both International and Super Rugby levels, we will be looking for T to impart his knowledge on some of our young up and coming backs.

“We are all very excited to have Tevita remaining at the Brumbies for the next couple of seasons.”
