Franca Jones and Deon Norval have been recognised by ACT Sport and Recreation for their outstanding commitment to volunteering for ACT rugby.
ACT Rugby attracted plenty of plaudits on Wednesday night when Franca Jones from the Queanbeyan Whites and Deon Norval from Uni-Norths Owls were recognised by ACT Sport and Recreation for their wonderful efforts and contribution as volunteers.
Deon was presented with the Commendation Award in recognition for his contribution to the Sport and recreation Industry.
Deon’s volunteering efforts were also recognised earlier this years the 2014 Macdougall Medal Presentation Night in which he was awarded the HS Quinn Trophy for services to rugby.
Since 2012 Deon has been the Uni-Norths 1st XV team manager as well as team manager for a number of different ACT representative teams.
Deon has also been involved in the ACT Junior Gold Cup Program as a team manager while also coaching and managing teams at Mount Carmel School in Yass.
Deon is renowned for doing the ‘one percenters’ and any team he is involved in, the players, coaching staff and parents really appreciate all the effort.
Franca was presented with the volunteer award – outstanding contribution in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Sport and Recreation Industry.
Franca has volunteered her services to rugby at the Queanbeyan Whites Club for more than 30 years.
Her roles at Queanbeyan has varied over the many years of volunteering, ranging from committee member, event’s organiser, sponsorship director, rugby tour organiser, match day planner and fundraising coordinator to working with the Queanbeyan community in assisting with many charities.
The Queanbeyan Rugby Club and Community are very grateful for Franca’s involvement and support.
Like Deon, Franca’s volunteering efforts were also recognised at the 2014 Macdougall Medal Presentation Night in which she was awarded the ACT & SNSW Volunteer of the year award.
Since then, Franca is now a finalist in the Australian Rugby Union’s HSBC Volunteer of the year award which will be announced October 23 at the John Eales Medal Presentation Night.
