David Pocock has been awarded the 2018 RUPA Medal for Excellence for the third time after a stellar season in both Brumbies and Wallabies colours.
The Medal For Excellence, which is voted on by the entire Super Rugby playing fraternity within Australia, asks players to consider all on-field performances of 2018, as well as excellence outside of it.
The all-time great openside previously won the award in 2010 and 2015, and looked at his absolute best this year following his sabbatical from Australian rugby in 2017.
The Medal for Excellence was one of two prizes Pocock took home this afternoon, sharing the People’s choice award with Australian Womens 7’s star Evania Pelite having also been awarded the John Eales Medal earlier this year.
Pocock wasn’t the only Brumby to be honoured at the awards, with Folau Fainga’a winning Newcomer of the Year after a fairytale rookie journey which saw the Brumbies rake make his Super Rugby and Wallabies debut in the same season.
Sam Carter also earned the Academic Achievement distinction, as he prepares to complete his Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Human Resource Management) at the end of this Semester.
Elsewhere, Reds youngster Jordan Petaia was voted best of the Australians in this years National Rugby Championship campaign, while Waratahs backrow Jed Holloway was the recipient of the Community Service Award.
