ACT Rugby fans will see international Rugby this winter with Wales committing to a game against the University of Canberra Brumbies at Canberra Stadium, 12 June.

The midweek game will be a good test for both the University of Canberra Brumbies and Wales, falling in the middle of the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour where they face the Wallabies in three Tests (Brisbane 9 June, Melbourne 16 June, Sydney 23 June).

In a new format for FxPro Super Rugby, no competition games will be played between 3-29 June, leaving four weeks for the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour to roll through Australia and into the ACT.

In a bonus for University of Canberra Brumbies members, they have been given from 12pm Monday, 14 May until 5pm Wednesday, 16 May to secure their regular seating.

Tickets go on sale for the general public at 9am, Monday, 21 May.

Wales haven't' played a University of Canberra Brumbies team since 1996 when they were beaten convincingly by the home side, 69-30 at Canberra Stadium.

Brumbies Rugby Chief Executive Andrew Fagan said he was excited to host the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for people in the ACT to get out and see one of the world’s best international sides on their own doorstop,”Fagan said.

“Claiming the Six Nations tournament undefeated has confirmed Wales as an international powerhouse, particularly considering their strong showing at last year’s Rugby World Cup.

With the four week break, this will be the only chance fans get to see the Brumbies play in the ACT during June and we would encourage all our fans to get along in support.

”From the rugby side, Head Coach Jake White said the game would prove valuable experience for his young team, many of whom have never faced international opposition.

“We have a lot of young guys in this team who wouldn’t have come up against an international team like Wales. This will be a big test for them,”White said.

“The Welsh were one of the teams which impressed at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and clearly they haven’t slowed down, claiming the Six Nations undefeated.

”The mid-week fixture will be the only non-Test the Welsh will play while in Australia with the reigning Six Nations champions scheduled to meet the Qantas Wallabies for the first Test of the Castrol EDGE Wales Tour on Saturday 9 June at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Wales will then head to the ACT for the Tuesday 12 June match before taking on the Qantas Wallabies in the second Test at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday 16 June.

The Castrol EDGE Wales Tour will wrap up in Sydney on Saturday 23 June with an afternoon Test scheduled for Allianz Stadium, the first Rugby Test at the ground since 1998.
